Why We Run A Four-Day Work Week

Ever feel like the workweek just... never ends? We’ve been there too. It’s a constant cycle of wake, work, sleep, repeat. If you had a choice, would you rather have two days off or three? As we grew into our business, we realised that we didn’t have to keep wishfully thinking this. We were finally in a position that allowed us to control how we work and make it work for us.

That’s why at Busselton Automotive Repairs, we decided to do something bold, something that puts both our team’s well-being and our customers’ needs front and centre: we moved to a four-day work week. No, we’re not cutting corners, slacking off, or shutting the doors more often. We’re just doing things differently, and honestly? We couldn’t be happier.

What Drove the Change?

The decision to move to a four-day work week wasn’t made on a whim—it was a carefully considered shift driven by a strong belief in balancing work and life for both our team and our customers. We wanted our workplace to feel less like a grind and more like a space where people could thrive.

Studies have shown that shorter workweeks significantly improve employee well-being and performance. For example, the largest four-day workweek trial conducted in the UK found that employees experienced reduced stress, improved mental and physical health, and decreased burnout, with 71% reporting lower levels of burnout and 39% feeling less stressed overall

The study also revealed that 92% of companies participating in the trial decided to keep the four-day week due to its positive outcomes.

Another study from the University of South Australia emphasized that extended weekends can lead to better sleep, more active lifestyles, and overall greater happiness. Employees reported feeling refreshed and more focused, which naturally translated to higher productivity at work.

For us, this decision came down to valuing our team. A happy, healthy team means better collaboration, creativity, and customer service. We believe that giving our employees the gift of time—whether they use it to relax, spend time with loved ones, or pursue hobbies—directly benefits the quality of work they deliver. When your team feels balanced and supported, they bring their best selves to the job, and that’s something our customers can count on.

What About Customers?

We know what you’re thinking: “Does this mean it’s harder to book in?” Not at all! We’ve simply packed our working hours into four longer days. That means we’re still here to handle your car troubles, early birds included.

Here’s how we make it easy for you:

  • Early Opening Hours: We’re open from 7 AM, so you can squeeze in a service before your day gets rolling.

  • Courtesy Car Available: Need to run errands while your car’s in the shop? Borrow our courtesy car—it’s here for you.

  • Pick-Up & Drop-Off Service: Within 5 km of our workshop, we’ll get you to where you need to be and pick you up when your car’s ready.

Even on our “off” day, you can still shoot us a text or email. We’ll get back to you first thing Monday morning, fully recharged and ready to roll.

Why It’s Worth It

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about a schedule change. It’s about creating a workplace where people thrive. And the impact goes beyond our walls. Happy employees who feel supported and appreciated are more likely to go above and beyond, which means better service for you.

So next time you book in with us, know that you’re supporting a crew that values quality, balance, and doing things a little differently.

Thanks for being part of the journey—we’ll see you bright and early at 7 AM, ready to get your car back on the road.
